Who We Are
Ongata Foundation is a community-based non-profit rooted in Takawiri Island, Homa Bay County. Our constitution was adopted in March 2026 and our NGO registration in Kenya is in progress.
Our work is grounded in one of the most underserved regions in the country—where food insecurity, limited economic opportunity, and public health challenges intersect.
We exist to build resilient communities through integrated, locally driven solutions that combine agriculture, digital access, and social empowerment.

Women-Led Agriculture
Scalable regenerative farm generating income for women and improving household nutrition.
Community Health & Food
Directly linking agriculture to health outcomes by supporting immunocompromised residents with nutritious food.
Digital & Knowledge Platform
Documenting impact to enable global partnerships and establish Takawiri Island as a replicable model.
Takawiri Island is home to a resilient community facing systemic challenges, including high levels of food insecurity and one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in Kenya.
Ongata Foundation is not built as a short-term intervention, but as a long-term, locally anchored system, designed to create self-sufficiency, dignity, and opportunity from within the community itself.
